About
About the site
Etrian Library is the creation of an eccentric hermit lady who works as a Japanese-English translator.
I didn't actually get into the Etrian Odyssey games until circa 2016 (via Labyrinth of Touhou), at which point I started playing through them in order and found I greatly enjoyed them. I'm currently about halfway through the third game.
I created this site in 2019—partly because of the apparent dearth of information about EO2 and EO3 in English, and partly because I thought it would be worthwhile to document localization oddities for posterity.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are you going to cover the rest of the games?
A: Maybe, but not until I've played them. Based on my pace so far, it might be years before I catch up with the current releases.
Q: Are the games badly translated?
A: No; the ones I've played so far (1, 2, 3), at least, were handled well. A few mistakes creep into any project of this scope, as I know very well from my own professional work! As such, I don't intend for my notes to call anyone out or demean the quality of the localizations. I just want to share some details that other fans might find interesting, especially if they don't know Japanese.
Q: Does this site conform to [insert standard here]?
A: Probably not. I'm sorry! It's on my to-do list.
